If you knew what I knew about how hard midwives ar If you knew what I knew about how hard midwives are working right now, and the pressures they are under, I know you would join me in celebrating and wishing them all a happy International Day of the Midwife, today.

It’s the 100th anniversary of the International Confederation of Midwives, and the 30th year when they’ve led a global day of recognition and celebration of the work of midwives.

This day reflects on progress in midwifery over the past 100 years, but I have seen some incredible work over the past two years.

The RCM (Royal College of midwives in the UK) have said “Over the past two years, midwives, maternity support workers and student midwives have met extraordinary circumstances and risked their lives to provide excellent care to women and their families.

“Now is the time to not only celebrate how they’ve been there for our communities throughout the pandemic, but to show up for them in calls to the Government to put money where it counts and invest in maternity.”

Can’t argue with that.

‘In all cultures, the midwife's place is on the threshold of life, where intense human emotions, fear, hope, longing, triumph, and incredible physical power, enable a new human being to emerge. (Their) vocation is unique’ - Sheila Kitzinger

Do please share your stories below about the ways a midwife has been there for you, and help us celebrate!

If I’m slow in getting back to you, please know If I’m slow in getting back to you, please know it’s not that I’m ignoring you but that I’m super super busy!

I’ll get more into the rhythm of it in time, but for now I’m a tad overcommitted with my NHS role / work for @_latchaid / my PhD research at @uclanuni / teaching for @babyemuk - and my kids, as well as a small private practice. Never a dull moment 😃

In a few weeks I’ll tell you more about my research and how you could get involved to help me achieve my goal; for now, I’m still finalising my research protocol and learning all about how to set things up. Learning some big words!

The LatchAid app is growing and developing too, this summer - looking forward to being able to share the launch of the new build which will include access for Android users, further into the year.

Signed copies of my book @WhyFormulaFeedingMatters are still available on my website - link in bio. Unsigned copies available from all the usual places of course.

Wishing you all a very happy May Bank Holiday Weekend 😃

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is leading an important campaign to raise awareness among parents and carers about potential hazards to children associated with putting items in their mouths and ingesting them.

OPSS is keen for groups, businesses, and individuals to support and share the materials on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram by using the hashtag #nilbymouth.
